Operative Laparoscopy

Operative Laparoscopy Available in Weston, Florida

Operative laparoscopy involves the use of a specialized camera to diagnose and treat pelvic conditions in women. Operative laparoscopy can be used to evaluate infertility and is sometimes used together with hysteroscopy.

At the Florida Institute for Reproductive Sciences and Technologies, Dr. Selub uses the operative laparoscopy procedure to make a diagnosis or perform surgery on:

  • Cysts
  • Fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Adhesions
  • and more

What Is Laparoscopy & How Can It Help in the Treatment of Infertility?

Laparoscopy is a procedure in which a laparoscope (a fiber-optic camera) is used to view internal organs. A small insertion is made through the wall of the abdomen and the laparoscope is inserted. If a tissue sample is needed, a biopsy can be performed using the laparoscope, as well.

Operative laparoscopy can help identify certain conditions that hinder a woman’s ability to become pregnant so a path to parenthood can be planned. Because it is minimally invasive, recovery from this procedure is usually rapid. Patients are typically back to work, or resuming their normal daily activities, within about two days after an operative laparoscopy has been performed.
