What Is Laparoscopy & How Can It Help in the Treatment of Infertility?
Laparoscopy is a procedure in which a laparoscope (a fiber-optic camera) is used to view internal organs. A small insertion is made through the wall of the abdomen and the laparoscope is inserted. If a tissue sample is needed, a biopsy can be performed using the laparoscope, as well.
Operative laparoscopy can help identify certain conditions that hinder a woman’s ability to become pregnant so a path to parenthood can be planned. Because it is minimally invasive, recovery from this procedure is usually rapid. Patients are typically back to work, or resuming their normal daily activities, within about two days after an operative laparoscopy has been performed.
